Some challenged claims of Sable Networks Inc.'s patent that describes a system for detecting intrusions in computer communication networks are unpatentable as obvious over prior art, the Patent Trial and Appeal Board said, in an inter partes review by Cloudflare Inc. and Splunk Inc. According to the board, some challenged claims are obvious over prior art that classifies data flows by comparing them to known application behavior patterns, describes a system for detecting intrusions in computer communication networks by collecting and analyzing statistics for flows traversing the network, and describes a bandwidth-management strategy.
