Ohio State football: Worst case scenario for 2021 season - Scarlet and Game

As Ohio State football fans, we always are looking for the best-case scenario on things. What is the worst-case scenario for the 2021 season though?

Ohio State football fans are always looking at their team and expecting the best. This is a program that is expected to win every single game on their schedule no matter who they schedule. Oftentimes, they do hit that best-case scenario and are true contenders.

What is the worst-case scenario this season though? What is their floor? That is a much harder question to answer and one that most fans don’t want to take a look at. Oftentimes, the floor indicates just how good a program is though. It tells you how often they contend for titles.

The floor for the 2021 team is pretty darn high. The only game that I can see them losing this season is the Oregon game. Oregon is by far the most talented team they are playing this season. But the Buckeyes get that game at home and have an early kick too.

Some people might point to the game in Bloomington as something to keep an eye on. That would be true if they didn’t have a bye right before that game. They will use that bye week to prepare for the Hoosiers and make sure that they aren’t a team that they take likely.

So at worst, this Ohio State football team finishes 11-1 on the season. Does that still get them into the CFP? I think it might, but it depends on what happens with other teams around the country. Undefeated champions in the other four conferences would keep them out.

If losing one game is the floor, then this team is pretty darn good. Ohio State’s worst-case scenario may still give them a chance to compete for a national title. That’s the type of monster that Ryan Day has built.
