South Orange and Maplewood Coronavirus Update: Daily Case Averages and More - TAPinto.net

SOUTH ORANGE/MAPLEWOOD, NJ — While COVID-19 has not disappeared, things are in a far better shape than just a few months ago. Many children are back in school, the Governor has further relaxed the restrictions on businesses and gatherings and the number of new cases of COVID-19 and hospitalizations have dropped.

We received the following statement from Candice Davenport the Maplewood Health Officer regarding the stats and conditions in Maplewood: “Our case numbers have decreased dramatically from March to April and as of just last week the entire state is ‘moderate’ on the CALI score for the first time this year. With the number of vaccinated people increasing, we are working toward creating a level of protection around our community and lowering our case numbers even further. I encourage everyone to get their second dose of COVID vaccine, and encourage your family, friends and neighbors to get vaccinated. Although the numbers are promising please continue to be vigilant and safe by wearing your face mask and practicing social distancing.”

Maplewood’s Public Health Nurse, Anna Markarova, BSN, RN, advised TAPinto SOMA that the 7-day average is approximately 2 persons. She further advised that the total number of COVID-19 cases in Maplewood STANDS AT 1517.

According to the Flourish Chart on the South Orange website, the Health Department is reporting the seven-day average of new cases is now 2 and the total number of cases since the start of the pandemic is 930.

The number of cases reported by Essex County never are the same as actual counts in each of the towns. However, all agree on the 7-day averages are trending down.

Other positive signs in the two towns are the opening of new businesses and seeing more people out and about.
