COVID-19 case rates rising in Larimer County; vaccinations exceed 207,000 - Loveland Reporter-Herald

Larimer County’s COVID-19 risk score remained high on Saturday, as its 14-day case rate rose to 433 cases per 100,000 residents.

Anything over 100 case per 100,000 residents is considered a high risk factor.

The ongoing tally of cases rose by 378 from Thursday to Saturday, and now stands at 23,625 cases since March 2020.

Cases ranged from a 1-year-old Fort Collins boy and 1-year-old Loveland girl to a 93-year-old Loveland woman.

Fort Collins residents accounted for 218 of the newly listed cases, while 105 were from Loveland, 24 from Berthoud, with lesser numbers from other small towns.

Forty-four cases were listed as probable and the rest were confirmed.

The number of deaths remained unchanged at 234.

But the number of vaccines administered has reached 207,227 shots, according to the Larimer County Department of Health and Environment’s dashboard.

The dashboard stated that 126,820 residents have received at least one dose, which is 35.5% of the total population.

Only people age 16 and older are approved to get vaccinations, and the county is also now reporting 42.8% of those age 16 and older have received at least one dose.

The county’s goal is to have at least 65% of those 16 and older vaccinated with at least one dose by May 25.

The number of county residents considered fully vaccinated is 80,407, which is 22.5% of the total population and 27.1% of those 16 and older.

Among those age 70 and older, 29,496 or 73.9% are now fully vaccinated.

On Friday, the county reported 33 COVID-19 patients were hospitalized.

Overall hospital utilization was 72% and intensive care unit utilization was 85%.

All of the hospital numbers are considered medium risk factors.

The number of new cases within a 24-hour period was at 163 on Friday, a decrease of five since Thursday.

The 14-day rate of positive cases was at 7% Saturday, a slight increase from Friday’s 6.9%.

On the state’s risk dial, Larimer County remains at the yellow Level 3.0 for concern.
