CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Active COVID-19 cases in West Virginia reached their highest level in one month on Thursday.
The state Department of Health and Human Resources (DHHR) confirmed 6,499 active virus cases, the highest total since March 1 at 6,692. The DHHR added 495 new cases in the past 24 hours in the daily report Thursday.
Hospitalizations due to COVID-19 are at 224 as of Thursday, a drop of 13 from Wednesday. 81 patients are in the ICU.
The DHHR confirmed seven additional deaths on Thursday to bring the statewide death total to 2,683. Deaths confirmed include of a 95-year old female from Jackson County, a 91-year old female from Ohio County, a 77-year old male from Raleigh County, a 67-year old male from Greenbrier County, a 41-year old male from Raleigh County, an 84-year old female from Berkeley County, and a 97-year old female from Ohio County.
“To honor the lives of these West Virginians who have passed, I ask that you please continue all prevention efforts against COVID-19,” said Bill J. Crouch, DHHR Cabinet Secretary. “Our deepest sympathies are extended at this time of grief.”
323,067 people in West Virginia have been fully vaccinated from COVID-19. 509,624 total first doses have been administered as of Thursday.
