COVID-19 case count continues to rise in patches around Northland - Duluth News Tribune

New COVID-19 cases continue to grow in small bursts throughout the 10 counties that make up the Northland. Of the 50 new cases reported Sunday throughout the region, 19 were Itasca County residents and 17 were from St. Louis County.

Several Minnesota counties, such as Aitkin and Cook, and Douglas County in Wisconsin, reported no new cases on Sunday.

New cases and seven-day averages in Northland counties:

  • Aitkin — 0; 0.6.
  • Carlton — 8; 3.9.
  • Cook — 0; 1.3.
  • Itasca — 19; 13.1.
  • Koochiching — 1; 1.4.
  • Lake — 1; 1.
  • St. Louis — 17; 28.
  • Ashland — 2; 1.
  • Bayfield — 2; 0.7.
  • Douglas — 0; 3.4.

Minnesota reported four new deaths from COVID-19 on Sunday and Wisconsin reported no new deaths. None of those people lived in the Northland.

Another 2,200 Northeastern Minnesota residents have had their first dose of COVID-19 vaccine, bringing the total up to about 108,568. In Wisconsin, another 123 people have been vaccinated in Ashland, Bayfield and Douglas counties, bringing the total vaccinated in that region to 22,485

Percentage of people with at least one vaccine dose in each county:

  • Aitkin — 33.3%
  • Carlton — 35.4%
  • Cook — 52.2%
  • Itasca — 29.5%
  • Koochiching — 26.8%
  • Lake — 31.5%
  • St. Louis — 33.9%
  • Ashland —33.4%
  • Bayfield — 39.8%
  • Douglas — 26.1%
