MANISTEE COUNTY — Manistee County has had 764 cases of COVID-19 and 18 deaths as of Wednesday’s data provided by the state.
This is an increase of one case and zero deaths since Tuesday.
The state shows 369 of the cases in the county listed as female, 386 were listed as male and eight as unknown. 42.4% of Manistee County’s COVID-19 cases in February were people over the age of 60, according to DHD#10’s county profile.
The DHD#10 case summary for March 15, the most recent available, shows that from March 9 to March 12 Manistee County cases were contracted in part because of recent travel.
VACCINES
Manistee County has 20% of its population completely vaccinated against COVID-19, according to the state’s data. This is 4,190 out of 20,931 eligible residents, according to 2019 Census estimates for people 16 years old and older.
There have been 11,030 vaccine doses administered in Manistee County, 7,105 in Benzie County and 12,647 in Mason County according to the state’s data.
There have been about 3.22 million vaccine doses administered in Michigan.
Gov. Gretchen Whitmer previously announced that all residents age 16 and up will be eligible for the vaccine starting April 5.

• Recovery numbers show that a person is alive after 30 days from the onset of testing or onset of symptoms.
NEIGHBORS AND THE REGION
• Grand Traverse County reported 4,061 cases and 63 deaths.
• Wexford County reported 1,559 cases and 21 deaths.
• Benzie County has seen 811 cases and 31 deaths.
• Lake County has seen 363 cases and 10 deaths.
• Mason County has seen 1,179 cases and 26 deaths.
• All counties in the state have reported cases of COVID-19.
• Most cases in the northern Lower Peninsula could be found in Grand Traverse County. However, Iosco County leads the northern Lower Peninsula with 64 deaths.
Manistee County is considered part of region 7 for tracking by the state. Region 7 includes Manistee and 17 other counties.
The region had 33 cases of adult patients either confirmed or suspected of COVID-19 hospitalized, none on ventilators and eight adults either confirmed or suspected COVID-19 cases who were in intensive care.
Munson Healthcare Manistee Hospital has no COVID-19 patients as of Monday.
LOCAL SCHOOL OUTBREAKS
COVID-19 outbreaks associated with educational institutions are reported by local health departments each week to the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services.
An outbreak is defined as educational institutions (i.e., kindergarten through grade 12 and institutions of higher education) that have been found by their local health department to have two or more COVID-19 cases who may have shared exposure on school grounds and are from different households.
This information is updated each week on the MDHHS website; it was last updated on March 15.
• Benzie Central Community Schools has 10 cases (students and staff) in the high school. This was added to the MDHHS website on Jan. 18.
THE U.S. AND GLOBAL PICTURE
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the first confirmed case in the U.S. was reported Jan. 22, 2020.
According to the World Health Organization, the U.S. leads the globe by far in number of cases total and deaths.
The latest numbers from the CDC show the U.S. has reported 29.3 million cases and 534,099 deaths from COVID-19.
The U.S. has the highest counts globally, followed by Brazil.
WHO lists 120.3 million confirmed cases and 2.66 million deaths in the world. There have been 363.6 million vaccine doses administered worldwide.
