Topline

Two FBI agents were killed and three were injured in a shooting Tuesday morning while investigating a child exploitation case in the Miami suburb of Sunrise, Fla., an incident that left a subject of the investigation dead.

Key Facts

The FBI says its agents arrived in a residential neighborhood in Sunrise early Tuesday morning to serve a search warrant in a violent crimes against children case, sparking what the bureau described as an “agent-involved shooting” at around 6 a.m.

Two FBI agents are now dead and three were wounded, and the subject of the warrant is also dead, the FBI’s Miami field office said in a statement (the FBI has not released the identities of the agents or subject).

Two FBI agents were brought to a hospital and are in stable condition.

Local police in Sunrise told the Washington Post the subject of the warrant barricaded themselves inside an apartment (a spokesperson for the Sunrise Police Department did not immediately respond to a request for comment).

What To Watch For

The FBI told Forbes the shooting is under investigation, but the agency did not offer any additional details.

Tangent

At around 9 a.m., the Sunrise Police Department said the area near the shooting is safe, but police are keeping some nearby streets closed and are asking neighbors to stay at home.
